Historical Research Workshop

Introduction: Rocio Garcia

Bonjour! Je m’appelle Rocio. I am not French, but I love the language so I tend to use it interchangeably with my English (sorry!).  I am a first year student here at Cal, with intention of pursuing a career in law. I am an intended Political Science and History double major.  I am from El Monte, which is in Los Angeles County. My interests lie in many areas of history, though I find history of indigenous cultures and ancient civilizations to be extremely fascinating.  I’m interested mainly in social liberation movements and efforts of decolonization, as well as human rights and human rights violations.  Since this is my first year in college, I don’t want to start off on the wrong foot when it comes to my research papers. I hope that through this decal I will start my first year with a strong foundation for the rest of my college career.

What region(s) do you mean when you say indigenous cultures? I, in particular, study Mesoamerican civilizations as my main area of studies in Latin America. There is also a solid selection of classes here at Cal that are focused on these topics so I think you will have a exciting collegiate career.
I’m glad you’re in the DeCal! We have a few surprises for y’all that will hopefully add to your research repertoire and build upon what you as an individual are bringing to Cal.
